Jill Beim, conservation and nature photographer

meet Jill

Hi, I’m Jill Beim, a conservation photographer based in Silver Bay, Minnesota. My work is driven by a passion for wildlife, wild places, and the stories that connect us to the natural world. Over the past 15 years, I’ve used photography to celebrate the beauty of these places while illuminating the urgent challenges they face. My goal is to inspire environmental stewardship by encouraging people to see—and feel—the importance of protecting what we love. In addition to my conservation work, I also explore the landscapes of the North Shore through fine art photography, with pieces regularly exhibited in local galleries and regional shows.

My approach to conservation photography has been shaped by hands-on field experience. While volunteering at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, I participated in a five-year study identifying critical habitat for the declining Rusty Blackbird population. I also volunteered alongside naturalists and biologists restoring oak savanna and prairie ecosystems. That time in the field grounded me in the science of conservation and strengthened my belief that storytelling is essential in connecting people to the work happening behind the scenes.

My collaboration with the Midwest Peregrine Society has become one of the most meaningful chapters of my career. Documenting peregrine falcon banding and monitoring efforts throughout the region allows me to share a powerful story of resilience and recovery—of a species brought back from the brink. This collaboration led to a feature project for Ranger Rick Magazine. Separately, my photography has also appeared in National Wildlife Magazine, helping bring the beauty of wildlife to a wider audience.

Through my photography and storytelling, I hope to deepen connections to the natural world and inspire action to protect it. I hope my images—both artistic and documentary—invite people to look more closely, care more deeply, and join me in protecting the wild places we all share.
